Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni

The work of Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002) is one of those designer-industry binaries that keep the successes of the 20th century alive. Most of it is still in production, its furniture, in which the material is reduced to a minimum to optimize functionality, remains the bestseller of many companies, from those to which it is historically linked such as Zanotta, Cassina, Moroso, Knoll International and Kartell, to Alessi, De Padova or Flos, to name a few. Until 1968, in collaboration with the Livio brothers, but above all with Pier Giacomo (1913-1968), with whom he created iconic furnishings such as the Neoliberty San Luca armchair, designed in 1961 for Gavina, or the revolutionary Mezzadro stool of 1957 for Zanotta, Castiglioni worked alone for the rest of his life, also dedicating himself to teaching at the Politecnico di Milano.
