Tobia Scarpa
Born in Venice on 1 January 1935, Tobia Scarpa follows his father's Carlo footsteps as an architect and designer, focusing on essential lines and new technologies applied to architecture and furnishings. Examples include the Coronado sofa in polyurethane from 1966 for B&B Italia, or the Papillona lamp for Flos from 1973, one of the first halogen lamps. He signed his projects with his wife Afra Bianchin (1937-2011), with whom he graduated in 1957 from the IUAV in Venice. The couple opened their studio in Montebelluna and in 1960 they made their debut with the Pigreco chair for Gavina, followed, over the years, by projects for B&B Italia, Flos, Knoll, Cassina (with which the duo won the Compasso D'Oro in 1970 for the Soriana armchair). In 1964 Benetton established a long-lasting collaboration with Scarpa, who curated projects for the brand related to factories and stores on a global scale.
