Vico Magistretti
The style of Vico Magistretti (1920-2006), whose furniture has always been designed for industrial reproduction, is characterised by simple elegance. It was in the 1960s, in the midst of the Italian economic boom, that his style reached its peak, also through the collaboration with Cassina, a company for which he made sofas, chairs, tables and lamps. From Knoll to Artemide, there are many great brands that have made products from his designs. Since his debut he has been a forerunner of new trends, for example, after graduating in architecture in 1945, he designed a bookcase supported by pressure uprights between ceiling and floor that will be shown in the exhibition RIMA at the Triennale in 1946. Then it was the turn of a bookshelf-staircase to be placed on the wall, exhibited at the 1947 Triennale, an idea still in vogue today.
